We did some training on ladders and on the ice in anticipation of my first rotation on the mountain. My crampon got stuck on the ladder and it came off. Thankfully it was only a training scenario. It takes a lot of physical effort to climb on ice. There’s a lot of equipment including my climbing harness, crampons, carabiners, slings, a mechanical ascender and my helmet.
I’m feeling better. Almost everyone at basecamp has the “Khumbu cough” which is caused by the cold dry air. I hike and sleep with a buff over my face to create more humid and warmer air for my lungs.
