April 14th- An emotional goodbye to the team!

We started the day with our last team breakfast. Many of us were dealing with intestinal, altitude, and respiratory issues so it was good timing to head back to Lukla. Tomorrow, the majority of the team heads to Kathmandu. Remaining at basecamp are Joanie and Jill who will be climbing Lobouche with Jess and Mary Beth.  The team flew 2 by 2 by helicopter to Lukla. It was emotional for all of us.

Later in the day, all the climbers participated in Puja ceremony during which the climbers ask for permission to safely climb Mt Everest. It was led by a Buddhist monk who chants and blessed each climber. The ceremony included drinking milk tea, burning incense, throwing rice and a type of flour. It ended with a shot of local alcohol.
